Dorian Concept, the Austrian synth virtuoso, will perform on November 18th at Hydrozagadka in Warsaw! The support act will be Sonic Nuances, a unique duo formed by Hania Derej and Zuzanna Całka.
Olivier Johnson has been working under the alias Dorian Concept for two decades. Over that time, the Vienna-born artist has established himself as one of the most intriguing figures in contemporary experimental electronic music, drawing on influences from jazz, ambient and soundscapes. His records have been released by labels including Ninja Tune and Brainfeeder, while he has also served as Flying Lotus’ touring keyboardist.
You had a chance to see him live last year when he supported Montell Fish in Warsaw, and in November he will return to the capital with his virtuosic, high-energy performance.
Sonic Nuances is a project initiated by Kaja Górska, who brought together pianists and composers Hania Derej and Zuzanna Całka. The artists bring their experience from the world of classical music into the realms of electronic music, ambient, jazz and improvisation, using the B2B format familiar from club culture. Hania Derej is a pianist, composer, arranger and conductor, the author of more than 130 pieces and winner of the FAMA 2024 Grand Prize. She has developed her skills at institutions including the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Academy of Music in Kraków. Zuzanna Całka has released the album “Late Night Takes”, performed at OPIA Festival and Eurosonic, and collaborated with Spitfire Audio and Nils Frahm’s Berlin-based LEITER label.
Sonic Nuances brings together two distinct musical sensibilities, with classically trained pianists improvising and experimenting to create live structures that can take on a different form at every performance.
