Charismatic vocalist and songwriter Kristina Esfandiari returns to Warsaw with her project King Woman for a show on October 5th at Hydrozagadka.
Kris Esfandiari, also known for projects such as NGHTCRWLR, Dalmatian, Miserable, and Sugar High, has been creating music under the King Woman name since 2009. After some time, drummer Joseph Raygoza joined the project, and in 2015 the duo released their debut EP “Doubt” through The Flenser. Soon after, the band signed with Relapse Records and unveiled their first full-length album, “Created in the Image of Suffering”, which Pitchfork named one of the best rock releases of 2017.
Two years later, under the guidance of Grammy-nominated producer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Amenra, Oathbreaker), the band recorded “Celestial Blues”, released in July 2021. The emotionally charged album seamlessly blends doom metal, shoegaze, and slowcore, while showcasing the remarkable versatility of Esfandiari’s voice. Songs from the record, including “Psychic Wound”, alongside the newer track “Bury”, were featured on the soundtrack to A24’s “I Saw the TV Glow”, directed by Jane Schoenbrun.
