The Benjamin Lackner Quintet is a unique gathering of five distinctive jazz personalities on one stage. The group is led by German pianist Lackner, and alongside him, at the forefront, we will hear outstanding artists associated with the legendary ECM label: Norwegian trumpeter Mathias Eick and Polish saxophonist Maciej Obara.
The stage will resound with songs from the album Spindrift, released by ECM Records. What makes this project unique, however, is that these compositions have been precisely arranged for a select quintet. Together, they create a distinctive, coherent sound – the musicians move smoothly from precise note-reading to pure improvisation, and the sounds of the trumpet and saxophone are able to function as a single organism.
This music is often referred to as the jazz equivalent of chamber music – it combines Nordic lyricism, expression, and an almost cinematic atmosphere with subtle melancholy. “This is an excellent ensemble performing Lackner's compositions with grace and an exceptionally beautiful sense of tempo” – BBC Music Magazine.
