Pochodzący z Filadelfii w stanie Pensylwania zespół o znamiennie brzmiącej nazwie Horrendous łączy w sobie nieskompromitowany grindcore z elementami black, doom, math oraz progresywnego death metalu. Zespół został założony w 2009 roku przez gitarzystę i wokalistę Damiana Herringa, perkusistę Jamiego Knoxa, gitarzystę i wokalistę Matta Knoxa oraz basistę Alexa Kulicka. Wspólna pasja członków do klasycznego, oldschoolowego death metalu zaowocowała demówką Sweet Blasphemies, która pomogła im podpisać kontrakt płytowy z Dark Descent. Debiutancki album studyjny zespołu, Chills, został wydany w 2012 roku, a po nim ukazały się Ecdysis w 2014 roku oraz Anareta w 2015 roku. Ten ostatni znalazł się na wielu końcoworocznych listach krytyków. Horrendous przeniósł się do wytwórni Season of Mist, aby wydać swój czwarty album studyjny - surowe brzmienie Idol z 2018 roku.
