Kontra K – the voice of determination in German rap
Kontra K, whose real name is Maximilian Tibor Albert Diehn, was born on July 3, 1987, in Berlin and is one of the most important artists of the German hip-hop scene of the past decade. He grew up in the German capital, where as a teenager he became fascinated with rap inspired by legends such as Nas, 2Pac, and The Notorious B.I.G. At the age of 16, he began recording his first tracks while also training in kickboxing — a sport that later became a key element of his image and life philosophy. In 2006, he co-founded the duo Vollkontakt, and in the following years developed his solo career, releasing his debut album Dobermann in 2010.
From the very beginning, he gained a reputation as an authentic artist who combines street experiences with reflections on life and self-discipline in his lyrics.
The road to the top of the German charts
The real breakthrough in his career came in the mid-2010s, when his subsequent albums began topping the German sales charts. Records such as Aus dem Schatten ins Licht, Labyrinth, Erde & Knochen, Sie wollten Wasser doch kriegen Benzin, and Vollmond made him one of the most recognizable rappers in the country.
Over twelve years, he has released twelve albums, nine of which reached the top ten of the German charts, and seven consecutively took first place. The artist has received dozens of awards and distinctions, including 33 gold and six platinum records, over four billion streams, and more than one billion views on YouTube. Kontra K has also been honored with awards such as the 1LIVE Krone for Best Hip-Hop Artist and the title of “Best German Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2023.
Concert energy and an inspiring message
Kontra K is known not only for his commercial success but also for his highly energetic live performances. His Die Hoffnung klaut mir niemand Tour in 2024 attracted over 200,000 fans and sold out the largest arenas in Germany. The artist consistently evolves his sound, collaborating with producers such as The Cratez, while his lyrics increasingly focus on motivation, strength of character, and overcoming personal limitations. In 2025, he released his thirteenth album, Augen träumen Herzen sehen, which once again topped the German charts and became the foundation for the biggest tour of his career.
Thanks to his authenticity, discipline, and inspiring lyrics, Kontra K remains one of the most influential voices in contemporary German rap, and his concerts draw thousands of fans looking not only for music but also for motivation to take action.
