You won’t be bored with Spike and the Gimme Gimmes! The cover supergroup will serve up fast-paced versions of legendary hits on November 8th at Proxima in Warsaw. Bulbulators and The Electric Gospel will join them as support acts.
Classic hits played faster and with more punch? That’s been Spike and the Gimme Gimmes’ speciality for three decades. For most of their existence, the band performed under the name Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, making a name for themselves with full-throttle punk rock covers of major hits from across popular music history, delivered with humour, vigour and a touch of nostalgia.
Often described as one of the greatest cover supergroups around, they’ve featured musicians associated with Foo Fighters, NOFX, Lagwagon, Minor Threat, Bad Religion and the Ramones. If you want to hear songs by artists such as Dolly Parton, Black Sabbath and ABBA reimagined as fast, upbeat punk rock anthems, don’t miss Spike and the Gimme Gimmes live in Warsaw.
Bulbulators formed in late 1989, when guitarist Artur “Burak” Latosiński decided to start a new band following the suspension of his previous group, Ramzes And The Hooligans. After playing a dozen or so shows across the Polish and Czech parts of Silesia and going through several line-up changes, they released their debut album, “Prawdziwe Życie”, via Enigmatic Records in 2000. The record brought the band wider recognition and gave them fresh momentum. A lot has happened since then: Bulbulators have released seven more albums and played dozens of clubs and festivals in Poland and across Europe.
Although The Electric Gospel emerged primarily from Warsaw’s punk scene, they draw just as much inspiration from classic rock ’n’ roll in the vein of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Hellacopters, The Black Crowes, Thin Lizzy and The Stooges. They combine fuzzed-out guitars with a driving, groove-heavy rhythm section, topped off with the sound of a Hammond organ. The Electric Gospel are coming to prove that rock ’n’ roll is picking up speed once again!
