Thulcandra are heading out on the “In the Light of Darkness” tour, joined by Greece’s Yoth Iria and atmospheric black metal act Vorga. On March 15th, the Warsaw club Mechanik will host three different faces of black metal.
Thulcandra is the black metal project of Steffen Kummerer, also known as the frontman of technical death metal band Obscura. For years, the Germans have drawn on the classic sounds of melodic black/death metal, particularly those developed on the Swedish scene in the 1990s, while translating them into their own musical language. They last visited Poland alongside Sacramentum, and in March they will return with their fresh EP “Black Sun Aeon”, released on September 10th.
Yoth Iria were formed in 2019 by two key figures of the Greek black metal scene: Jim Mutilator (ex-Rotting Christ, Varathron) and The Magus (ex-Rotting Christ, Necromantia, Thou Art Lord). Although only the former remains in the project today, Yoth Iria continue to stay true to the raw, old-school side of Hellenic black metal, as heard on their albums “As the Flame Withers” and “Blazing Inferno”. Their latest release, “Gone With the Devil”, came out on May 8th this year and marks the Greeks’ first album released via Metal Blade.
The evening will be opened by German band Vorga. Their take on black metal is marked by a dystopian atmosphere, which they have already showcased on two full-length albums: “Striving Toward Oblivion” and “Beyond the Palest Star”. The band recently joined the AOP Records roster, where their upcoming album will be released.
